Onan Ganjang

Local Variety Name: Onan Ganjang
Variety Lineage: Natural cross of S795 with Bourbon
Original heredity of the cultivar is not known, however based on the young sprout/leaves color, it is a hybrid of Bourbon origin/dominant gene; or mutation of S795 based on more dominant Bourbon gene Kent varietal.

Brief History: In the late 80’s, Lintong coffee farmers discovered a natural hybrid/mutation varietal in Onan Ganjang village; farmers then started planting them in their farms all over Lintong Nihuta region and the varietal made it as far as Simalungun region.

Cup Profile: Classic Sumatran flavors although it produces clean cups it is not as herbal as Lintong coffee, fruity, herbal and nice complexity and brightness on the acidity with syrupy body.

Our Crop

We love road trips in our ‘trusty’ 30+ years old Daihatsu Taft. It really is a tank! To source the plants for our second farm in Pematang Purba, we contacted a good friend in Dolok Sanggul, Isner Manalu. He is a dedicated Agronomist that works very hard to promote, teach and implement sustainable farming practices in the Lintong Region. He directed us to a farmer group nursery and what a gold mine. All the plants are healthy and strong. There are now 350 trees happily growing in the Pematang Purba farm. We will propagate these for future crop expansion. We love this cup profile and can’t wait to see how it blends with the local Sigarar Utang for a mind blowing cup profile.
